What is Mandvo?
The mandvo is a religious ceremony which is done from both sides separately, as the almost ‘prep’ for the wedding ceremony itself. Traditionally my side of the family are able to do this at home with very small numbers & family – for girls getting married, the mandvo can be done on the morning of the wedding.
What happens at a Pithi?
A pithi ceremony is a joyful, playful and fun occasion in which family members and friends bless the couple with well wishes. They rub the pithi paste onto the bride and/or groom’s arms, neck, face, hands and legs.
What is a Peethi?
Pithi is a paste made mainly of turmeric, chickpea flour and rose water. Family members and well-wishers of the bride and groom apply the paste on the bride/groom’s skin. This yellow paste is thought to brighten and even the skin tone and is applied on one of the days prior to the wedding ceremony.
What is a Pagla ceremony?
Kanku Pagla As the new bride is considered the avatar of Goddess Laxmi, the new family takes her feet imprints. The bride dips her feet in vermilion water and walks on the white cloth. This is considered one of the most important rituals. Source.
How long is a Mandvo?
Traditionally, a Hindu wedding will take place over three days, however, some will be extended to five. A brief overview of the three days is: 1st Day – The Ganesh Puja is otherwise known as the Mandap Muhurat & Pithi. This is often followed by a Mendhi night/Sangeet night.
How do Jains get married?
The Sagai or the engagement ceremony doesn’t involve the couple exchanging rings, like in most other communities. In the Jain community, Jain marriage is announced through a tilak. The bride’s family visits the groom’s family and gifts and sweets are exchanged along with a tilak ceremony of the groom.

What should I wear to the Pithi (Haldi) Ceremony? If this is at the family’s home, you will want to wear upscale casual clothes. For women, a casual, modest sundress. For men, a pair of slacks and short sleeved button down are appropriate.
What is dirty Pithi?
It’s a fun and joyous game for the couple who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty! A tray of water is mixed with milk and snider (vermillion) and then filled with coins and a ring. The aim is to find the ring four out of seven times to be the winner, and you guessed it! The winner will rule the household.
What is a Mosaru?
These two ceremonies were followed by Mosaru – Gujarati traditional meeting and greeting of the maternal families from both sides. This ceremony is very emotional and has some very tender moments.
Do Hindus see marriage as a lifetime commitment?
For most people in India, marriage is a one-time event in life, which sanctified and glorified with much social approval. Marriage is a social necessity; marrying children is the primary responsibility of parents in India.
