What is the London monument?
The Monument stands at the junction of Monument Street and Fish Street Hill in the City of London. It was built between 1671 and 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London and to celebrate the rebuilding of the City.

Today, visitors climb 311 steps to the top of this historic landmark (built 1677) to take in spectacular views of London. As recognition of such an achievement, each visitor to the Monument receives a certificate as proof of their athletic abilities! Free entry for companions and children under five years of age.
What happened to Thomas Farriner?
After the fire, he rebuilt his business in Pudding Lane. He and his children signed the Bill falsely accusing Frenchman Robert Hubert of starting the fire. Farriner died in 1670, aged 54–55, slightly over four years after the Great fire of London.

Why is the monument London closed?
During the 1939-45 World War, when the City was swept by fire for the second time in its history, and a third of it laid waste by high-explosive and fire bombs, the Monument was closed to visitors.

30 minutes max for the whole monument.
Can you still climb the monument?
Unfortunately due to the nature of the attraction, it is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties or people that use a wheelchair. As a historic building, we are limited in our access capabilities.
