In Singapore, the game is known as capteh. The name is thought to be either Malay or Hokkien in origin. Variants of the name include chapteh, chaptek and chatek.
What is a Chapteh?
Also known as 毽子 (Chapteh in Chinese) or Chatek or capteh, our chaptehs are premium models made with genuine feathers. This game is at least 2000 years old and is played all over the world, especially in South East Asia. The Chapteh originated from cuju, a football-like game that was being used in military training.
Who invented Chapteh?
Capteh has been dated to 5th century BC in China, known then as Jianzi or ‘shuttlecock’ to the military service men who used the game to train, and Shaolin monks in Henan, to strengthen their martial art skills. Since then, the game has travelled to many Southeast Asian countries and given different names.
What is Chapteh made of?
It is called ‘chapteh’ in Malay. It is made of some rubbering materials tied together and some feathers are placed on top of them for stability when travelling in the air. The feathers has the same function of those in the badminton shuttercock.

AEIOU: One child (leader) stands alone with his/her back against a group of children. They stand in a row facing the leader. The leader shouts AEIOU, then turns around to look at the group behind him. As the leader says A-E-I-O-U, the group of children walk towards him.
