Cherrywood and Olivewood are some of the inexpensive alternatives to briar. My first pipe was a cherrywood billiard and it’s still one of my favorite smokes 4 years later. It all depends on how well you take care of them. If it’s not gonna break your pockets though, I’d say don’t knock it till you try it.
