What is S rated oil?

What is API SL mean?
API Service Category SL was first introduced in 2001 for use in gasoline engines and is not suitable for use in engines introduced after 2004. API continues to license engine oils against API SL and it is considered to be a current specification.
Can I use SN oil instead of SL?
SM and SN supersedes SL so both oils can be used.
Can I use API SL instead of SN?
For example, if we have an oil with specification SN, it can also be used for vehicles which request API SM, SL and SJ; it is backward compatible. However, you have to pay attention to the year of construction of the engine.
What is JASO MA oil?
JASO MA – This was the standard for single unit engines where the wet clutch, gearbox and engine used the same oil. JASO-MA oils don’t contain friction modifiers. JASO MB – This lower standard was for bikes that use separate oils for the engine, clutch and gearbox (e.g Harley Davidson’s and BMW’s).
Can I use SP oil instead of SJ?
API SP will be fully backward-compatible with previous API service categories, including API SN PLUS, SN, SM, SL or SJ.
