Do Medela Freestyle parts need to be replaced?
You should replace pump parts at the following intervals: Flanges – Every 6 months. Connector, Valve, and Back Cap – Every 3 months. Tubing – Tubing should be replaced if it won’t reliably stay connected when you’re not moving around excessively.
Can Medela Freestyle be reused?
You can reuse any hard plastic breast pump accessory for a second child, such as breastshields and bottles. Just make sure they’ve been cleaned thoroughly. Inspect them for cracks, warping and buildup of milk residue – and replace as necessary.

Do not buy a used open system breast pump! Some diseases are also transmissible through breastmilk, and we know from a recent CDC study on contaminated breast pump parts that unclean parts absolutely can contaminate breastmilk. Don’t risk the health of your baby by buying a used open system breast pump.
How do you clean Medela Freestyle tubing?
Clean your Medela tubing.
- Begin by turning off your breast pump and removing it from the power source.
- Remove tubing without wiggling or pulling at an angle.
- Rinse tubing in cool water to remove any breast milk residue.
- Wash tubing in warm soapy water, rinse in cool water and hang to dry thoroughly.
Are Medela parts dishwasher safe?
Most of your Medela breast pump parts are safe for cleaning on the top rack of the dishwasher. So, if you have access to a dishwasher, this is a very simple option for cleaning your breast pump parts. Remember, your tubing only needs to be washed if it’s dirty or if milk is present.
