What is telluric acid used for?
Telluric acid is a weak acid which is dibasic, forming tellurate salts with strong bases and hydrogen tellurate salts with weaker bases or upon hydrolysis of tellurates in water. It is used as tellurium-source in the synthesis of oxidation catalysts.
Why is telluric acid weak?
Although this formula is equivalent to H2TeO4·2H2O, the molecule is octahedral and is not a dihydrate. It is isoelectronic with the hydroxocomplexes Sn ( OH ) 6 2 − and Sb ( OH ) 6 − . As a result of its structure, telluric acid is a weak acid (see Chapter 6).

Does H2SO3 cause acid rain?
H2SO3 + 1/2O2 »»» H2SO4. Figure 8h-2: Several processes can result in the formation of acid deposition. Nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) released into the atmosphere from a variety of sources call fall to the ground simply as dry deposition.
What is the shape of Te (OH) 6?
It is a white solid made up of octahedral Te (OH) 6 molecules which persist in aqueous solution. There are two forms, rhombohedral and monoclinic, and both contain octahedral Te (OH) 6 molecules.
Is there an isostructural salt with TeO6 octahedra?
This is true even for salts such as magnesium tellurate, MgTeO 4, which is isostructural with magnesium molybdate and contains TeO 6 octahedra. Metatelluric acid, H 2 TeO 4, the tellurium analogue of sulfuric acid, H 2 SO 4, is unknown.
What is the oxidation state of tellurium in H2TeO3?
Tellurous acid (H 2 TeO 3), containing tellurium in its +4 oxidation state, is known but not well characterised. Hydrogen telluride is an unstable gas that forms hydrotelluric acid upon addition to water.
