What IEC 62305?
IEC 62305 – Protection Against Lightning, is the apex level document that informs the standards for lightning protection around the world. It is a design standard that comprises of four documents that provide the lightning protection designers with the rules and regulations they require to design an LPS.
What are the basic components of a lightning protection system?
Lightning Protection System Components. A lightning protection system consists of the following five parts: air terminals (lightning rods), conductors, ground connections (electrodes), bonding, and lightning arrestors.
Does the NEC require lightning protection?
Electrical-system protection is the domain of the NEC, and NFPA 780 covers traditional lightning protection systems. It does not cover lightning protection system installation requirements for early streamer emission systems or charge dissipation systems.
How do you design a protection system?
Our design steps:
- System studies to determine load and fault at various bus.
- Deciding the type of relays and perform relay settings calculations.
- Coordinating protective devices throughout the system.
- Programming the relay logics and control logics.
- Integrating protective relays with peripheral systems and other IEDs.
Is BS EN 62305 a legal requirement?
According to BS EN/IEC 62305, it is mandatory to complete a risk assessment annually to ensure that your lightning protection system complies with the regulations. Installing a lightning protection system is not only about obeying any necessary regulations.
What are the types of lightning protection systems?
The 3 types of lightning protection system
- The lightning rod (simple rod or with triggering system)
- The lightning rod with taut wires.
- The lightning conductor with meshed cage (Faraday cage)
What is the best protection against lightning?
– Substantial, frequently inhabited buildings (those grounded with plumbing, electrical systems, and, if possible, lightning rods) are best. – If you can’t find a substantial structure, get in a car with a metal roof and sides. – Avoid small structures, such as stand-alone public restrooms. – Standing under a tree is a very bad choice. – Bring in your pets.
What are the components of a lightning protection system?
– To intercept direct lightning strikes via an air-termination system – To safely conduct the lightning current to the ground via a down-conductor system – To distribute the lightning current in the ground via an earth-termination system
What do you use for lightning protection?
Immediately get off elevated areas such as hills, mountain ridges,or peaks.
What are the requirements for lightning protection?
LIGHTNING COUNTER The lightning counter must be installed over the more direct downconductor, above the join control, and in all cases, about 2 meters above the ground. PROTECTION Mechanics: Each down conductor shall be protected against any mechanical shock through a protecion tube to a height greater than 2 meters from the ground.
