What does a renogram show?
A renogram is a nuclear medicine test of the kidneys. It can be used to see how well each kidney is working and whether urine passes on into the bladder without obstruction.
How do you read renogram results?
The images are read from left to right and from top to bottom. Note that, unlike x-rays, nuclear renograms show the left kidney on the left side (as you face the scan). The data collected by the camera is analyzed by a computer and plotted on a time graph.
What type of renogram is typical for hydronephrosis?
The “well tempered” diuretic renogram: a standard method to examine the asymptomatic neonate with hydronephrosis or hydroureteronephrosis.
What is captopril Renography?
A captopril renal scan is used to evaluate for the presence of renal artery stenosis and renovascular hypertension. This captopril scan is performed in order to rule out renal artery stenosis in patients with high blood pressure.
How do you test a renogram?
A renogram or renal scan is a test that uses a radioactive substance (or tracer) to examine your kidneys and their function. The scan evaluates the blood flow through the kidneys and measures the amount of time it takes for the tracer to move through the kidneys, collect in the urine and drain into the bladder.
What is Lasix renogram?
What is a renogram with Lasix? This test looks at how the kidneys are working. Kidneys help filter waste from the body and produce urine. Lasix is a diuretic (a medicine that helps the kidneys produce urine more quickly). The test is done in the Nuclear Medicine department using special camera equipment.
Can a CT scan detect hydronephrosis?
CT and EP ultrasound results were comparable in detecting severity of hydronephrosis (x2=51.7, p<0.001). Hydronephrosis on EP-performed ultrasound was predictive of a ureteral stone on CT (PPV 88%; LR+ 2.91), but lack of hydronephrosis did not rule it out (NPV 65%).
What is the best test for hydronephrosis?
Hydronephrosis is usually diagnosed using an ultrasound scan. Further tests may be needed to find out the cause of the condition. An ultrasound scan uses sound waves to create a picture of the inside of your kidneys. If your kidneys are swollen, this should show up clearly.
How is a renogram done?
A Nuclear Medicine Renogram is performed using a special radioactive material that, when injected into the blood stream shows the kidney blood supply and filtering action of the kidneys. Nuclear Medicine scans are performed using very small amounts of radioactive material.
