- Outline a frame and build it.
- Construct a sluice box which has to be mounted on the frame.
- Install the mechanical components like motor and pump.
- Build the intake system using pipes and hoses.
- Add rubber inner tubes enabling the dredge to float.
How does a small gold dredge work?
Suction dredges utilize a high-pressure gasoline powered water pump to suck up water, gravel and gold, and inject this material into a sluice through a header box. The header box dampens the rush of water and gravel so that it flows evenly into the sluice.

A suction dredge essentially works like a heavy-duty underwater vacuum cleaner. It sucks up rocks, gravel, silt, and anything else at the bottom of a streambed using a gas-powered pump and suction hose. These materials pass into a floating sluice, which filters and recovers the gold.

Can you use a power jet to power a gold dredge?
Due to the impressive power of this new engine and pump, it can be used to power a 4 inch submersible or a 2 1/2 inch gold dredge. For shallow water dredging, a suction nozzle is recommended. Power Jets tend to lose prime to the pump easier than suction nozzles.
