Is a 2×12 cabinet louder than a 1×12?
a cabinet that distributes current is going to run more speakers with less power to each speaker, while a 1×12 will get the total amount of power from the amp and the speaker may be pushed into non-linear operation. this would result in a different sound that may be perceived as more or less loud.
What is the difference between a 1×12 and 2×12 cabinet?
A 1×12 cab will mean that you will only need to switch one speaker to experiment as opposed to 2x12s or 4x12s where you probably will end up switching more than one. at the same time, you can isolate individual speakers in 1×12 cabs and be able to hear obvious differences in your sound with that one speaker.
Do I need a 2×12?
There’s no significant advantage to getting a 2×12 cabinet unless the speakers you intend to use don’t have a high enough spec to work with the amp. The 4×12 exists, for example, ONLY because Jim Marshall needed to use four 25W speakers with his new 100W amp.

Does a 2×12 cab have more volume than a 1×12?
I live in an apartment and am unable to play loud and have read comments that a 2×12 cab will not have more volume than a 1×12 can but yet at the same time will sound fuller at low volumes compared to a 1×12. Planning to run the Eminence c-rex in the cab. Would greatly appreciate any input, thanks.
Would a 2×12 tube amp be too big for an apartment?
A 2×12 would be mucho overkill. I use a cab cut for 2, 8″ alnico webers. Rather nice for low volume stuff. In my experience any tube amp that I have ever owned would cause problems in an apartment.
Is a 2-12 a good size for an apartment?
A 2-12 is more directional due to multi-path cancellations, but in an apartment with so many surfaces bouncing the sound around, it won’t matter. A good 2-12 is such a useful thing , if nothing else it’s a good size to sit on! Plus if you ever do a gig, you are ready.
