What can cause PSVT?
Atrioventricular nodal re-entrant tachycardia (AVNRT) is the most common cause of PSVT. It occurs when a small extra pathway exists in or near the AV node — the “gate” that sends electricity from the upper chambers (atria) to the lower chambers (ventricles).

Is PSVT serious?
PSVT is generally not life threatening. If other heart disorders are present, it can lead to congestive heart failure or angina.
Is PSVT normal?
PSVT is a fairly common type of abnormal heart rate. It can occur at any age and in people who don’t have other heart conditions. The heart’s sinus node typically sends electrical signals to tell the heart muscle when to contract. In PSVT, an abnormal electrical pathway causes the heart to beat faster than normal.
What infections cause high heart rate?
Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle (myocardium). The inflammation can reduce the heart’s ability to pump and cause rapid or irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias). Infection with a virus usually causes myocarditis.
Is PSVT curable?
Over time, PSVT can weaken your heart muscle. In severe cases, PSVT can lead to loss of consciousness, and it can even cause sudden cardiac arrest. If you have PSVT, see your provider regularly so they can monitor your heart health. In almost all circumstances, PSVT can be cured with catheter ablation.
Can low potassium cause SVT?
Supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, torsades de pointes and ventricular fibrillation can all occur with severe hypokalaemia.
