What do nut numbers mean?
The number has nothing to do with the size, but does indicate the relative strength of the bolt. The higher the number, the stronger the bolt. Some metric nuts are also marked with a single-digit number to indicate the strength, and some may have the M and strength grade embossed on the flats of the hex.
How do you calculate nuts?
If the nut is metric, count the number of lines on the tape measure to find the measurement. If you count 9 lines, the size is a 9-mm (millimeter) nut. If the nut is US standard, count the smallest lines on the tape measure in sixteenths. Add the sixteenths together to find the size.

What do numbers mean on bolt?
