Does higher octane gas make a difference?
Will higher octane gasoline clean your engine better? No. High octane gasoline doesn’t outperform regular octane in preventing engine deposits from forming, in removing them, or in cleaning your car’s engine. This is a myth.
Does gas octane really matter?
If it says to use fuel with an octane rating of 87, filling your tank with a higher-octane fuel doesn’t provide any extra benefits to your engine. If your vehicle manual says to use fuel with an octane rating of 89, going below that grade can affect your engine’s performance and fuel efficiency.
What does octane do?
What does octane do? It just prevents the air-fuel mixture from igniting before the spark plug does it. Firing the air-fuel mixture at the proper time gives you the maximum power your engine was designed to get. Using higher-octane gasoline than your engine is designed to utilize is only wasting your money.
Do you get better mileage with premium gas?
On its own paying for premium gasoline does not make your car run better or get greater gas mileage. Giving your car the fuel it requires to run smoothly and efficiently, without damage to the engine, does make a difference in your fuel mileage.
Is BP gas good quality?
All of BP’s grades of gasoline are Top Tier certified, meaning they have detergent levels that exceed the federal minimum standard.
What speed gives best gas mileage?
55-65mph
The Energy Saving Trust says that the most efficient speed you can travel in a car in terms of achieving the best fuel economy is 55-65mph. Any faster, though, and the fuel efficiency decreases rapidly. For example, driving at 85mph uses 40% more fuel than at 70mph (oh, and it’s illegal too).
Will 1 gallon of diesel hurt a gas engine?
The filler neck for gasoline cars is smaller than the diesel nozzle so you can’t actually get the diesel nozzle into it. But a relatively small amount of diesel will not harm the engine. It will lower the octane rating a bit so the engine might knock/detonate under heavy acceleration, so drive with a light foot.
