What causes flap failure?
Causes of failure Vascular occlusion (thrombosis) remains the primary reason for flap loss, with venous thrombosis being more common than arterial occlusion. The majority of flap failures occur within the first 48 hours.

What causes flap necrosis?
Skin flap necrosis is caused by a lack of blood and oxygen to the tissue and may be evident by the 2nd to 4th day following surgery. It often shows as an area of darkness or blood-stained blister on the leading edge of the flap. A doctor or wound care specialist evaluation is required to identify skin flap necrosis.
Do gums grow back after flap surgery?
Any excess gum tissue that is removed to reposition the gum line and reveal more of the teeth will not grow back. This longevity is a relief for patients, particularly those who are self-conscious about the appearance of their gums and don’t want to worry about excess gum tissue returning in the future.
